Blair Cooper and Johnny Boos Best the RMLS Field in Weekend Racing with Final Race of the Season on the Horizon

Belleville, IL (09/13/2020) Heading into the final few races of the season, the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints would hold their last multi-day event of the year this past weekend. With visits to Honor Speedway on Friday, September 11th, and El Paso County Raceway on Saturday, September 12th, RMLS competitors would battle hard all weekend for racing supremacy as all eyes are locked on the championship picture heading into the final season points race. After outstanding on-track performances, Friday would see Blair Cooper earn his second feature victory of the season as Johnny Boos would claim his series-leading sixth win of the season.

First up for the weekend of racing was the final trip to Honor Speedway this year for the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints on Friday, September 11th. Going nearly caution-free in the feature event, Andy Flood #9F would use a pole starting spot to gain the early advantage and cruise to a commanding lead. Pacing the field Flood would appear to be the driver to beat on the night until lap traffic would come into play as a hard-charging Blair Cooper would use a high-side maneuver to perfection. Cooper would grab the lead from a seventh starting spot with Flood pinned behind a lap car racing down the backstretch.

Bunching the field back together after a late-race caution, Blair Cooper #32 would celebrate his second win of the season by holding off all other drivers for the final laps. Flood would maintain momentum on the restart placing in the runner-up position with Chris Crowder #26 rounding out the podium of the event.

Saturday, September 12th the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprint racing at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan Colorado would also be hot and heavy with plenty of action throughout the feature field. Claiming heat-race victories Johnny Boos #24B and Chris Crowder #26 would become victims of the redraw, relegating the early front-runners to the third row starting spots on the feature grid.

Wasting hardly any laps the two would fly to the front as Boos and Crowder would be the fastest of the field gaining the top two spots and separating themselves from the others while battling for the front. Boos would grab the lead and hold on to the top spot for his sixth feature win of the year. Crossing the line in a close second place Crowder would be in the hunt for a victory all race, finishing only 1.485 seconds behind Boos. The previous week’s feature winner Dakota Dillon #39x keeps his championship hopes alive with a solid third-place finish with TJ Trengrove #5 fourth and BJ Sauer #21B rounding out the top five.

Next up for the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprints will be the final event for the 2020 racing schedule on Saturday, September 26th at El Paso County Raceway, in Calhan Colorado. Pits will open at 2 PM with Driver’s Registration 3-5 PM. Ho Laps kick off at 6 PM with great racing to follow.
