Jacksonville, IL– Patrick Bruns of Champaign, Illinois dominantly defeated a solid 20 car field to claim night number three of Illinois SPEED Week at Jacksonville Speedway. Bruns’ victory with the POWRi Lucas Oil ILLINI D II Midget Series was his fifth of 2016. Tyler Vantoll followed Bruns to the stripe after running second a majority of the race. Mitchell Davis took third, holding off Andy Malpocker who finished fourth, while Quincy Raceways winner Chett Gehrke rounded out the top five.
“It’s been a tough few weeks and here we are back in victory lane,” said Patrick Bruns. “We had a little mishap at Macon that landed me in the hospital and at the doctors for a while, but all my bodily functions are back and I can still drive a racecar. I can’t thank these guys enough for busting their butt so I can do this. I’ve got to thank the Lord and Savior above for giving me a chance to do what I do.”
“This was a really good night compared to what we had last night,” Tyler Vantoll stated. “We came out here tonight and battling with Patrick, it was good clean racing, so we’ll take it.”
“I was kind of hoping for another caution there just so I could catch up to those guys,” Mitchell Davis said. “It was getting hot so I couldn’t really push it any harder. Last night we had the gauge all the way pegged for the temperature, so I had to pull off which was unfortunate.”
