2024 Hockett/McMillin Memorial Penalty Report Update

2024 Hockett/McMillin Memorial Penalty Report Update

Belleville, IL – This is an update to the driver disqualification of the POWRi 410 Sprint League event at Lucas Oil Speedway on September 14, 2024 and subsequent appeal process.

Saturday night’s finale winner, Jake Bubak was disqualified after the sample taken from his right rear tire at the conclusion of the main event failed to conform to the benchmark provided by Hoosier Racing Tire.

Following the disqualification, Bubak and the Bourke Motorsports team elected to appeal the decision and proceed through the POWRi 410 Sprint League’s appeal process. Through this process of appeal, it was again verified that the tire was indeed tampered with, which violates the series’ rules on tire alterations:
POWRi 410 Wing Outlaw Series Specifications; Section 23 - Tire Prep:
a. The altering of any tire compound, by any means will not be permitted. Chemical alteration of the tread carcass and/or tread compound, such as tire ‘soaking’ and/or the introduction of tread ‘softener’ and/or physical defacement (removal, altering and/or covering) of tire sidewall markings in any manner will not be permitted. If any competitor is found to have altered their tires any penalty deemed appropriate by POWRi Series Officials may be issued.

Adhering to the appeal process requirements, as set forth in subsection D:
Money won in an event may be held until the final determination is made by the independent laboratory,

POWRi officials held the winner’s pay until Bubak’s appeal process was completed. While there has been criticism that this process has been lengthy, POWRi officials want to ensure a fair and just appeal.

Officials have been in contact with Scott Bogucki and Ochs Racing to ensure they receive the $5,000 ‘true up’ bringing their already paid second place winnings to the event winner’s total of $10,000.

POWRi Racing, Inc. appreciates the continued support from our teams, partners, and fans as we remain committed to fairness, transparency, and the integrity of our sport.
