Belleville, IL (11/2/21) Flying onto the sprint car scene in 2020 with a limited showing of five events within the Lucas Oil POWRi Wingless Auto Racing Sprint League, Xavier Doney, of Odessa Missouri, would use this past racing season as a launching pad. Solidifying himself as a notable name among the Midwest, Doney would not only finish runner-up in the overall season standings gain the title of Lucas Oil POWRi WAR Sprint League Rookie of the Year honors in 2021.
The “X-Man” Doney sporting the Doney-Lawson Racing, Design Source Flooring, Mohawk, Engineered Floors, DRC Chassis, Kissler 410 Racing Engine #74 would notch seventeen Feature Starts within POWRi WAR racing, placing inside the top-10 on sixteen occasions. Earning ten top-5 placements, Xavier would represent himself well posting five runner-up finishes.
Claiming a remarkable 530 Point advantage in the Rookie of the Year campaign, Xavier would be in the thick of the overall standings championship by only finishing a mere -90 points behind the eventual champion Mario Clouser.
Leading the POWRi WAR Spring League with an astonishing 5.35 Average Finish, the fifteen-year-old Doney would earn six heat race wins at Lake Ozark Speedway (4/2, 7/23, & 7/24), Lucas Oil Speedway (4/24 & 9/16), and Spoon River Speedway (6/12). Grabbing a sole High Point Qualifier Awards at Lake Ozark Speedway (7/24) and earning the Event High Point Award on the final night of the Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway (9/18).
Proving talent well beyond his years, Xavier Doney proved to be a threat to win in every event while showing that the sport is alive and well in a youthful movement. Moving forward, Doney should certainly be exciting to watch as he continues to climb through the rankings of talented open-wheel competitors within the Lucas Oil POWRi Wingless Auto Racing Sprint League.
