Caleb Saiz Reigns Supreme in 2020 POWRi NMMRA Points Championship

Caleb Saiz Reigns Supreme in 2020 POWRi NMMRA Points Championship

Belleville, IL. (10/19/2020) Forced into a lengthy shut down for nearly the entirety of the 2020 racing season, the POWRi Lucas Oil New Mexico Motor Racing Association would compete in six events at two separate racing venues this year with wheel-to-wheel action throughout. Visiting their home racing surfaces of Sandia Speedway on four speedy occasions while spectacularly visiting Alien Raceway for a two-day show. With only seven points separating the top-two championship finishers, Caleb Saiz of Albuquerque New Mexico would earn the title in a hard-fought battle all season with second place season finisher Spencer Hill.

Stretching in racing dates from mid-July to early-October, the POWRi NMMRA would see four separate feature winners with Saiz and Don Grable both earning a pair of wins, while Rick Ziehl and Michael Fanelli would each win one event. Close racing and even-competition would set the stage for a touch of late-season dramatics with the championship title on the line.

Caleb Saiz would use front-running consistency all season to bring home the hardware in his Hal Burns Truck and Equipment, NAPA Belts and Hoses, Performance Plus Racing Engines, Scoggin Mechanical Industries, Schaeffer’s Racing Oil, Race Simpson, Hoosier Racing Tire Midwest, Weise Auto Supply, JMS Telephone Company, JMP Voip #99. Continuing to be a top-pilot in open-wheel racing, Saiz remains ready for the upcoming season and beyond to defend his throne as the champion of the POWRi Lucas Oil New Mexico Motor Racing Association.

Celebrating a season championship Saiz would state, "The championship means a lot to us, this is my second NMMRA championship I won my first one in 2018. Our team goes way back with the NMMRA, two of our crew guys Steve Nix and Clyde Hill have been competing with the NMMRA for over 40 years Steve’s dad Gene Nix even raced with the NMMRA back in the early 70’s so it absolutely means a lot and we couldn’t be happier especially with how things are going in the world today with COVID-19. As for our future plans, things are still up in the air, especially with COVID-19. We are just going to have to wait until schedules come out and make a decision on where we want to run and what’s best for us. I’m going on my 6th year in a sprint car so I would definitely like to look at running some more bigger shows next year." Going on to prove his team-first mentality Caleb would reflect the spotlight saying, “I couldn’t be happier for my teammate Devon Amos, he finished out the year strong and did very well for his first year in a sprint car.”

Bringing more winning ways to the desert team of Hal Burns Racing, Devon Amos #41 would claim the POWRi New Mexico Motor Racing Association Rookie of the Year honors for the 2020 racing season. Amos, an incredibly talented wheelman, would be under-powered in his mighty 305 but would prove to be a force in the future after his first season of non-wing racing.
