Rico Abreu to Try and Make it Three in a Row

Rico Abreu to Try and Make it Three in a Row

Belleville, IL. (08/03/2020) In attendance for the 2020 Ironman 55, Rico Abreu of St. Helena CA. will be back behind the wheel to attempt to make it three wins in a row at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

Abreu will be back driving the #97 for the Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports stable. Rico has 12 POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League wins in his career. He is tied for 13th on the all-time POWRi win list with Brent Anderson out of Belleville, IL. Last year at the 2019 Ironman 55, Abreu became the second ever driver to win two times at the historic I-55 raceway. Only one other driver, who is Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, Mo. has been the only other driver to visit victory lane two times at I-55.

Abreu capitalized last year and swept the weekend at I-55. Rico had an immaculate run from the 14th starting position and ended his night on the stage in victory lane, on the first night of the 2019 Ironman 55. His hunt wasn’t done yet, on the second night of the Ironman Rico had nothing short of spectacular run. He led the field to the checkered flag and took his #97 KKM Midget back to Victory lane for the second night in a row.

This year, Rico Abreu has yet to run a midget with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League. This coming weekend, August 7-8 will be his first outing with the POWRi League. Aside from his main gig with the 410 Sprint Car, in the 2019 race season with the POWRi midgets, Rico finished nothing outside of the top two in five starts. Will Abreu be the first one to stand in victory lane for the third time this weekend?

Both nights at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, the pit gates will open at 2:00pm with the grandstands opening at 4:00pm, hot laps and qualifying are set for 6:30pm with opening ceremonies and racing slated to follow.
