Taylor Velasquez Triumphs Hutchinson Nationals with POWRi URSS

Hutchinson, Kansas (July 20, 2020) For the first time in the history of the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing, drivers would compete in the 64th Annual running of the Hutchinson Nationals. Taylor Velasquez of Liberal, Kansas captured his first win of the year with the series on Friday at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, becoming the ninth different winner in eleven sanctioned races.

With United Rebel Sprint Series officials overly impressed with the track surface and the show that was provided by competitors as Jordan Knight and JD Johnson would set the pace for the 20-lap feature event. Knight took off with the early lead with Ty Williams sitting in the second running position for several laps ahead of JD Johnson who rounded out the running-podium. Velasquez, who started fifth, would get past Kyler Johnson on lap four, then on lap seven Velasquez would again advance position to grab third from JD Johnson.

With revolutions around Hutchinson ticking away lap eleven would see Velasquez advance yet another position, moving up to second past Ty Williams. Velasquez had only one goal heading into the night, setting his sights on the leader Jordan Knight. Knight and Velasquez would battle hard, rubbing wheels and making contact with a few laps remaining. Velasquez would pass Knight for the lead on lap nineteen and on to capture the feature victory by a 0.392-second margin over Knight with the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing earning his first win with the series in this year.

Jordan Knight and Ty Williams were heat race winners on Friday night at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas. Taylor Velasquez was the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard-Charger passing five cars to grab the feature win.

Up next for the POWRi Lucas Oil United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing is a double-header next Saturday and Sunday on July 25th and July 26th at Rush County Speedway in Lacrosse, Kansas for the Bull Ring Nationals. The track and the preparation put into this event remains a favorite of the drivers and fans of the URSS setting the stage for a weekend of can’t-miss-racing.

Pits open at 2 pm on each day of racing for drivers and crews with driver’s registration scheduled from 3-5 pm. The driver’s meeting will be at 6 pm as Hot Laps begin both events at 6:30 pm, racing action to follow.
