LEWIS LEADS WAY TO THIRD MLS WIN AT I-35

LEWIS LEADS WAY TO THIRD MLS WIN AT I-35

WINSTON, MO. (June 1, 2019) – Scoring his third POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Lightning Sprint League triumph of 2019 on Saturday night at I-35 (Mo.) Speedway, Kyle Lewis of Spring Hill, Kans. bided his time behind Kenny Bowers until he saw the perfect moment to strike and seized it, capturing the lead and hanging on for another MLS victory.

Mark Billings of Kansas City, Mo. and Bobby Layne of Kansas City, Mo. opened the evening by splitting heat race wins at the Winston, Mo. facility. However, it was Tyler Miller of Gallatin, Mo. and Kenny Bowers of Olathe, Kans. on the front row of the feature event.

While Bowers took the initial lead, a three-way war ensued for the second spot between Miller, Lewis and Stanley Kreisel. Bowers led the way for the opening five laps, but soon received a challenge in the form of a hard-chargin and determined Lewis.

Finding the perfect moment to make his move, Lewis hounded Bowers and pressured him into a mistake coming into turn three on the seventh circuit. Lewis snuck his No. 2 underneath Bowers and the duo raced wheel-to-wheel down the frontstretch with Lewis gaining the edge into turn one and assuming the race lead.

Bowers came back at him, however, pulling alongside Lewis down the backstretch, but that would be all he had as Lewis fended off his bid and pulled away in command. As Lewis held the top spot, Bowers soon become engulfed under pressure from Kreisel with the second spot on the line. Kreisel would clear Bowers for the runner-up position and set his sights on Lewis in the lead. He would catch him in the closing laps, but a broken chain ended his bid for the win on the final lap.

In the end, Kyle Lewis of Spring Hill, Kansas picked up his third victory of 2019 with the POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Lightning Sprint League at I-35 Speedway on Saturday night. Rounding out the top five was Bobby Layne in second, Tyler Miller in third, Alex Davis in fourth and Jeff Bard in fifth.
