SMITH SEALS STRONG DOUBLE-X TRIUMPH

SMITH SEALS STRONG DOUBLE-X TRIUMPH

CALIFORNIA, MO. (May 27, 2019) – Scoring his third-career POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League main event victory, Wesley Smith of Nixa, Missouri topped Sunday’s show at Double-X Speedway with a thrilling performance aboard the Helm Racing No. 12.

Another group of 19 entries signed-in for action with heat race wins heading to Smith, Saturday’s winner at Lake Ozark, Jack Wagner, and Quinton Benson. As the LRB, Inc. #HighPointMan, Smith redraw a four-car inversion and slotted the front row with Brad Wyatt of Kearney, Missouri on the pole and Benson in the No. 15B to the outside.

Storming to the early lead in the 25-lapper was the 2018 championship runner-up, Benson. Smith and last year’s title holder, Riley Kreisel, were quick to keep Benson on a short leash and prepared to attack him for the top spot when a caution for a spun Samuel Wagner bunched the field back up.

Taking the high side and forcing Benson into a side-by-side battle, Smith shot to the top on the restart and pulled alongside the No. 15B as the war intensified. Finally, Smith gained the edge around the outside and assumed sole control of the race lead while Joe B. Miller from seventh worked by Kreisel for a podium spot.

In the end, Nixa, Missouri’s Wesley Smith proved to be too strong, running away with a strong triumph at California, Missouri’s Double-X Speedway, marking his third-career victory with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League.

Joining Smith on the podium was Millersville, MO’s Joe B. Miller with an impressive seventh-to-second charge and Quinton Benson in the third position after leading early. Closing out the top five was Jack Wagner in fourth and Korey Weyant in fifth-from-tenth. Rounding out the top ten was Katlynn Leer in sixth, Riley Kreisel in seventh, Kory Schudy in eighth, Tyler Blank in ninth and Chris Morgan in tenth.

On tap next for the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League is a Friday, June 7 appearance at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley MO followed by a Saturday, June 8 event at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO.
