Sarff Crowned POWRi National Midget Rookie of the Year Honor

Sarff Crowned POWRi National Midget Rookie of the Year Honor

Belleville, IL – After a grueling freshmen season with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, Mason City, Illinois’s Karter Sarff claimed Rookie of the Year honors and a fourth-place finish overall in the standings.

With one podium, five top-five finishes and 16 top-ten finishes, Sarff was the only driver in the top seven that was winless, a tip of the hat to his consistency aboard his Steve Reynolds Motorsports, Boss Factory Racing #21KS entry.
Sarff’s best finish, his solo podium came in an impressive run during POWRi Illinois SPEED Week’s opener at Belle-Clair Speedway. After starting 23rd by virtue of a provisional, Sarff charged all the way to the third position when the checkered flag flew.

“I met Steve Reynolds racing outlaw karts a couple years back,” commented Sarff. “We started talking and about a year after meeting him, he called and asked if I wanted to run his midget in Florida for the POWRi season opener at Bubba Raceway Park. After a consistent run there, we committed to running for Rookie of the Year after Florida.

We have a lot of good people behind this team, especially the team owners Steve and Joyce Reynolds. Steve’s connections with Flea Ruzic and everyone has helped me get to my goal of Rookie of the Year. It would have been nice to get a win in 2018, but our goal was to get Rookie of the Year and we accomplished that.

We definitely had a lot of good finishes. I had a lot of confidence in the cars and how Flea sets them up. We’re really excited for next year because I feel like we hit our stride and I’m confident for 2019.

The plan is to run both POWRi and USAC in 2019. We’ll go for the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League championship and USAC Rookie of the Year. We definitely want to win races this year.”

Sarff will be honored at the POWRi banquet on Saturday, January 26th at the River City Casino in St. Louis, Missouri. The evening will begin at 6:30.
