Gress Picks Up POWRi Career First with Meents Memorial Win

Gress Picks Up POWRi Career First with Meents Memorial Win

Belleville, IL– Leading all 20 laps, Carlee Gress picked up a career first win with the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League, winning the 14th Annual Charlene Meents Memorial at Belle-Clair Speedway. Starting on the pole by virtue of collecting the most passing points through the heat races, Gress took a commanding lead as the laps clicked off.

Enduring two cautions throughout the feature event, Gress never flinched and continued to slow-roll the bottom for the entire feature. On the final caution, Andy Bishop who had moved up from 12th to second, continued to rail the high-side of Belle-Clair Speedway, but Gress never faltered running low and claimed the checkered flag.

Following Gress and Bishop, Riley Goodno took third. Austin Schaeffer finished fourth with Nick Worley in fifth.

“This is a new car for us,” stated Gress. “We got it a couple weeks ago. Our other car wasn’t working for us and we got this car and have been fast ever since. I’m glad we were able to get a win here. Those last cautions, I was afraid the top would come in, but I didn’t know when. I kind of saw it wasn’t coming in very fast, so I decided to stick on the bottom. Those last few laps I heard someone up there and just hoped no one would beat me on the last lap up there.”

“You start that far back and you’re at the mercy of the yellows,” said Bishop. “She rolled the bottom there for a good 20 laps and well, you win some, you lose some.”

“Not a bad way to finish out the night,” commented Goodno. “We started outside the front row and this is definitely our best finish at a track we struggle at.”
