Klaasmeyer Victorious at Macon

Klaasmeyer Victorious at Macon

Macon, IL – Notching another victory to his name with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, Tucker Klaasmeyer stole the show at Macon Speedway, earning his third career victory with the league. By virtue of passing points, Klaasmeyer earned the top point position for his Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports Toyota-powered mount and shared the front row with Tyler Courtney.

In the opening laps, Klaasmeyer narrowly edged Courtney for the lead as the two raced in close-quarters around the high-banked fifth mile. Battling hard for the lead, the two drivers exchanged the lead multiple times over the initial 20 laps. After a slow in racing action, Courtney’s Clauson-Marshall mount suffered mechanical woes while leading and was forced to the infield for the remaining 10 laps, allowing Klaasmeyer to inherit the lead.

As the laps wound down, Klaasmeyer received pressure from Jake Neuman, who battled from a fifth place starting spot to challenge for the top spot. Holly Shelton, making a comeback after a hard flip during the POWRi Illinois SPEED Week at Belle-Clair Speedway, completed the podium. Jerry Coons, Jr. took the fourth position, advancing from ninth, while Jason McDougal finished fifth, advancing from tenth.

“We were off for a couple weeks and I was hoping I wasn’t rusty,” commented Klaasmeyer. “Macon was badass tonight. It was about as good as it ever is. We had a good heat race. It feels good to get number three. We’ve been close a couple times this past month, but haven’t been able to seal the deal, but this time we got it done for good. Now we can focus on getting number four tomorrow.”

“We were fast,” stated Jake Neuman. “I can’t thank Alan and the whole crew enough. The car was fast. The track prep was good. Congrats to Tucker and we’ll try again tomorrow night. Lincoln will be fun.”

“I’ve struggled at Macon, a lot, so to run third to Tucker and Jake is great,” said Holly Shelton. “I can’t say enough about my team. That last yellow I felt something on my ride and it turns out the motor was going, but I was going to run it until it blew. I’m just super grateful to be here.”
