DAUM DOMINATES DOUBLE X SPEEDWAY WITH WAR SPRINTS

CALIFORNIA, MO (May 27, 2018) - Working his way past early leader Riley Kreisel on lap two, Zach Daum would go on to a convincing win in the Jesse Hockett Tribute on Sunday night at Double X Speedway with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints.

Kreisel moved out front from his pole starting position with Daum giving chase. Daum was able to work his way past Kreisel on lap two and on lap four, Kreisel would get sideways in turn four with third running Korey Weyant hitting him with his right rear as he ran out of room. Both drivers would stop with Weyant being done for the evening and Kreisel restarting at the rear.

Daum set a torrid pace out front with Mario Clouser running second. Daum got into heavy lapped traffic but was able to negotiate through it to stay comfortably out front.

With twenty laps in the books and Daum out to a comfortable lead, the red would come out for James Lyerla, who got upside down in turn four, collecting Ben Brown in the process. Lyerla was uninjured, but his evening was done.
Daum again shot into the lead with Clouser running second. As Daum took the white flag and staring at a comfortable win, the yellow would come out for Chance Morton, who spun over the turn four bank.

This would give Clouser one last shot at Daum, but Daum again jumped out to a sizeable margin collecting his fourth career POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints win in the Matt McGarry Motorsports/McGarry Machine and Welding MRP Chassis with Gaerte power under the hood. Clouser was second in his Yokohama Tires/ Clouser Auto Repair Maxim with Claxton power. Quinton Benson was third in his QBR/GHR Speed Shack Performance-powered MRP.

Anthony Nicholson ran fourth in his Razor Edge Graphics/DHR Suspension Maxim powered by a Dyno Tech engine. Rounding out the top five was Wyatt Burks in the Clem signs/Bumper to Bumper Salina 410 powered Maxim.

Finishing a career-best sixth was Jack Wagner in the Jesse Hockett Racing entry as he was followed by Craig Carroll. Katlynn Leer was eighth with Kreisel moving back up to ninth. Rounding out the top ten was Slater Helt. Chris Parkinson, who finished twelfth, was the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger and was also awarded the Jesse Hockett Hard Charger of the Race. His crew chief was also given the Daniel “The Wrench” McMillin Award.

The POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints will next be in action on Saturday, June 2 at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO as they make their second appearance of the season.

The POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Wildcard Sprints will visit the Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL this Wednesday, May 30.
