Jacksonville, IL – Joe B Miller of Millersville, Missouri capitalized on lap traffic late in the race to pick off Craig Ronk in route to his 29th career POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League victory on night three of POWRi Illinois SPEED Week at Jacksonville Speedway. Starting outside the front row and losing ground to Ronk on the start, it looked as though the driver out of Warsaw, Indiana was perhaps on his way to repeating his victory at Jacksonville Speedway from mid-May.
However, as Ronk entered lap traffic a little past the halfway point, it became apparent the youngster was struggling to make it through, while Miller made up tremendous ground and closed in. With less than three laps to go, the duo was slicing and dicing in heavy lap traffic and Miller made his move, darting past Ronk and into the lead with two laps to go. After picking off Ronk, Miller went unchallenged for the final lap, as Ronk had lost too much ground with the lap cars. Nick Howard took third, while Jackson Frisbie scored fourth. Joey Wirth rounded out the top five.
“We struggled early and I tried searching,” commented Joe B. Miller. “I started following Eric (Wright) and we were better on the bottom in one end and the top on the other. Got really good and I seen that Ronk was struggling with lap traffic so it kind of worked out in our favor. I’ve been very blessed. ”
“It still feels good,” Craig Ronk said. “I knew it was going to be hard to beat Joe B. I saw him coming. Good job to Joe B. We’re looking forward to tomorrow night and Sunday.”
“The track was good, the car was good,” Nick Howard stated. “I’ve got to thank my dad and uncle. I’ve got to give all the credit to them.”
