Sapulpa, OK (November 5, 2016) It was almost a picture perfect night for the 2014 POWRi West Champion, Alex Sewell, as he picked up his first POWRi West win of 2016 during night one of the Fall Fling at Creek County Speedway. Starting on the pole of heat race number five, Alex jumped out to the early lead and was never challenged as he cruised on to pick up the heat win. Overall passing points put him ninth in points and landed him a ninth place starting position in the 25-lap A-main event. Forty-one POWRi West cars filled the Creek County pit area with 22 of them moving on to the main event.
The Integrity Custom High Points earner, Tyler Thomas, started on the outside of row one for the big show and jumped out to the early lead. As Thomas began to pull away, the battle for second and third heated up between youngster Matt Moore and Kory Schudy. Unfortunately on lap 7, the race was slowed as Moore and Schudy got together high in turn three and a three car pileup ensued on the bottom of turn three with Austin Brown ending up upside down. As the race went back to green, Alex Sewell continued to move through traffic and made his way into second spot, chasing down Thomas. After completing lap 14 Thomas spun coming out of turn two and once again slowed the race and also turned over the lead to Sewell in the process.
From that point on Sewell would continue to lead with Tucker Klaasmeyer and Matt Sherrell giving chase. Another caution for Klaasmeyer would move Sherrell comfortably into second. While Sherrell gave chase to Sewell, the Sewell Mechanical #8 was never really challenged and the father-son team moved on to a Victory Lane celebration. Sherrell finished second with Pat Schudy, Wesley Smith, and Grady Chandler rounding out the top five. Smith was named the RaceBumpers.com Hard Charger after passing 14 cars en route to his fourth place finish.
Saturday night’s show at Creek County will feature much of the same wheel to wheel racing, once again hosting the ASCS Sprint Cars and the POWRi West Midgets. After the Fall Fling, the POWRi West Midgets will conclude their 2016 season and plans will be announced soon for the upcoming 2017 year.
