Chett Gehrke Takes Win at Lincoln Speedway, Andy Malpocker Takes Illinois SPEED Week

Lincoln, IL– Chett Gehrke of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma won the final night of Lucas Oil ILLINI D II Midget Series competition during Illinois SPEED Week at Lincoln Speedway, while Andy Malpocker claimed the Illinois SPEED Week title. Battling for the lead with Andy Baugh and Mitchell Davis, Gehrke took the lead from Andy Baugh on lap three, but then lost the lead to Mitchell Davis on lap seven. After a late race yellow on lap 15, Gehrke shot to the inside of Davis entering lap one and after contact, moved past for the lead. Gehrke would lead the final five laps, followed by Andy Malpocker and Mitchell Davis. Andy Baugh took fourth, while Hunter Lane took fifth. Johnny Murdock took the Sport City Honda of Jacksonville Hard Charger Award.

“I wasn’t very good there for a while,” said Chett Gehrke. “I couldn’t figure out how to get into turn one and I was trying to conserve tires a little. I got into Mitchell there and I feel a little bad about it. But, that was my one opening and I had to take it. I probably wasn’t going to get by him any other time.”
“The car was good,” explained Andy Malpocker. “I think we burned up eight tires between two classes. It’s been a long week, so I’m glad we finished out tonight strong.”

“I just feel like we should have won that,” stated Mitchell Davis. “The car was the fastest car on the track, is what it felt like. We kind of got into it in turn one, but that’s just one of those deals. Then on the last restart, I hit the throttle and it popped into neutral, so we’ll have to get that fixed for next time.”
