Macedo Wires Night Four with National Midgets at Macon Speedway

Macedo Wires Night Four with National Midgets at Macon Speedway

Macon, IL– Carson Macedo of Lemoore, California wired night four of Illinois SPEED Week with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series to take his second victory of 2016. Macedo’s first National Midget victory of 2016 came during the POWRi event at Fayette County Speedway last month. Starting on the pole for the 30 lap main, the initial start would be called back after Spencer Bayston, Zach Daum, and Garrett Aitken were collected in turn four. Macedo then jumped out front at the drop of the green and held a strong lead even after Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports teammate Tanner Thorson moved into the second position on lap two.

Macedo would endure two cautions, slowing the race until the red flag on lap 11 after Justin Peck took a tumble down the back stretch. The final caution came on lap 15 after Tucker Klaasmeyer lost an engine running in the fourth position after starting 14th. Thorson would be in prime position to capitalize on the yellow, but nothing he threw at Macedo would stick. Darren Hagen finished third, while Terry Babb took fourth after starting 15th. Zach Daum rallied back to a fifth place finish after being involved in the wreck on the opening lap. Ty Hulsey of Owasso, Oklahoma earned the Sport City Honda of Jacksonville Hard Charger award, going from 21st to 8th.

“Tanner is without a doubt, one of the best out here,” said Carson Macedo. “That track was tough. It was awesome though and right on the fence. I made a lot of mistakes, things to look back and work on, but this Keith Kunz Motorsports team, puts in a huge effort. I can’t say enough about them. To be up here with Tanner and Darren is pretty awesome.”

“These are team cars, so we have to play a little nicer than usual, but I gave it my all,” Tanner Thorson stated. “I followed him around there for a little bit just to see where he messed up to get by him easier. But, I tried my hardest here and I hope we put on a good show. We’ll go to Lincoln tomorrow night and see if we can’t get a win.”

“Coming out of retirement and racing against these punk kids is tough,” commented Darren Hagen. “But, hats off to these guys; I just can’t say enough about this team.”
