Macon, IL– Nick Howard of Lawrence, Kansas dominated night four of Illinois SPEED Week at Macon Speedway with the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series. Leading the Illinois SPEED Week points, Howard’s win strengthens his lead going into the final night at Lincoln Speedway on Sunday. Howard lined up seventh to start the 20 lap feature and on lap three would steal the lead away from Evan Weyant, diving to the bottom side of turn three and take the lead coming out of four. Howard would go on to lead the final 17 laps, enduring two yellows and one red flag, to claim his first victory of 2016.
Best described as a man on a mission, Jeremy Camp charged from deep in the field to finish second after starting 18th, earning the Sport City Honda of Jacksonville Hard Charger Award. Evan Weyant would finish third after leading the opening first two laps, while Nathan Benson finished fourth. Austin Stewart rounded out the top five.
“This is one of our favorite tracks and one of our best tracks,” said Nick Howard. “We got off to a good start and it just kept up the whole race. I had too much momentum going so I just went for it and it worked.”
“Wish we could have got a win there,” Jeremy Camp stated. “Maybe if we got a yellow, we might have had something for him, but you know, heck of a run and congratulations to Nick. We came out of the B-main there and I had to throw something at the car and just hope for the best.”
“Jeremy was really coming on the bottom,” commented Evan Weyant. “Great run on his part. Nick was really on a rail, congrats to him. The car was running awesome, dad was doing an awesome job, and I can’t thank him enough for everything he does week in and week out. It feels great to finally get a podium here.”
