Camp Wins at Macon Speedway In Front of Hometown Crowd

Camp Wins at Macon Speedway In Front of Hometown Crowd

Macon, IL – Jeremy Camp of Blue Mound, Illinois had a breakthrough evening in front of his hometown crowd for his 12th career POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series victory after a third place finish the night before at Fayette County Speedway. Camp started on the inside second row and chased down early race leaders Levi Curry and Nathan Benson for his first win of 2016.

In an action packed event for the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series at Macon Speedway, Levi Curry led the field to green, sharing the front row with Ryan Frantz of Atwood, Illinois. On the initial start Aidan RoosEvans, Evan Turner, and Cailin Hunt piled up entering turn three. Calling back the restart, Levi Curry would lead lap one, but Nathan Benson would power past to take the lead off turn four on lap two. On lap three the yellow would fly as Gabe Verardi spun in turns three and four, while Luke Verardi simultaneously flipped on the backstretch bringing out the red. Alex Nalon was also involved.

Coming back to green Jeremy Camp worked past Levi Curry for second and set his sights on Benson. On lap five Evan Turner spun in the middle of one and two, bringing out the caution. Returning to racing, Jeremy Camp worked to pressure Benson only to have the caution fly on lap 10 as Gabe Verardi sat spun in three. On the restart, Camp searched for the faster line staying right on Benson’s bumper. With two laps to go, Camp worked past Benson up top as Levi Curry closed in on the duo. For the final two laps Camp pulled away as Benson finished second with Levi Curry rounding out the top three. Garrett Duff took fourth while Ryan Frantz rounded out the top five.

“We always love coming here, but we just lack a little bit,” said Jeremy Camp. “It’s awesome to be here. To be able to pass Benson on the outside like that is pretty nice. We’ve got some great horsepower and we’re ready for SPEED week.”

“Tire selection won tonight,” stated Nathan Benson. “We’ve got no rubber left on our rear tires. Hat’s off to Jeremy, it was a good race. We’re just a lap short.”

“It wasn’t bad,” said Levi Curry. “I should have probably ended up winning, but it took rubber so early. I’m just glad to be here and be on the podium. I can’t thank all the guys at Woody’s Chassis enough.”
