Belleville, IL. (8/12/24) Building anticipation and honorary appeal since the KKM Challenge 2024 schedule hit social media following the Chili Bowl, special significance has been reserved for the Coles County Speedway events on September 4-7 in the distinct presentation of #Racing4Rider with nearly $25K in bonus winnings.
“What started as a simple idea has grown into a meaningful tribute, thanks to the tireless efforts of my wife, Heather, we are deeply honored to announce a special sponsorship for this event in memory of our son, Rider, who we lost as a stillborn on September 7th of 2023,” said event coordinator Chuck Gurney.
Holding a unique place in the hearts of the Gurney family, Coles County Speedway not only served as son Tate Gurney’s first-ever start in a Jr Sprint but also debuted in a Restrictor on the same night that Daison Pursley made his triumphant return to racing following a severe accident in Arizona. That night, both talented drivers claimed victories in all the feature races, filling the venue with unforgettable family memories.
“For most of the summer, Heather encouraged me to reach out to Keith and see if we could honor Rider at this race. Finally, in early July, I asked about the possibility of sponsoring all the heat race winners on both prelim nights as a way of giving back to the racing community and honoring Rider's memory. Keith's immediate support was the spark that ignited this initiative,” added Chuck Gurney.
Quickly forming, through the incredible generosity of friends, fellow racers, and industry companies, event promoters involving the Gurney family have been overwhelmed by support and kindness securing fantastic sponsorships for the upcoming KKM Challenge presented by #Racing4Rider at Coles County Speedway on September 4-7.
