Belleville, IL. (11/14/2022) Returning to the Southern Illinois Center on December 17th will witness POWRi salute the memory of one of the region’s most accomplished car owners with the renewing of the Junior Knepper 55 as competitors battle for $5,000 to win.
The “Junior Knepper 55”, a 55-lap race honoring the famed car number which adorned Walter Knepper’s storied career, will feature the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget League competing on a specially-constructed dirt oval inside the well-known Southern Illinois Center near the DuQuoin Fairgrounds.
Changing the name from Battle at the Center, POWRi will now honor Walter Knepper whose fifty-eight career USAC feature victories included thirty-four wins in sprint cars as well as twenty-four checkers claimed in midgets racing: with drivers Bob Wente, Tom Bigelow, Mel Kenyon, George Snider, Dana Carter, Rich Vogler, Steve Knepper, and Nick Knepper.
