Belleville, IL. (3/9/22) Starting the series' third full season of competition, the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints would go wingless weekend racing with an inaugural visit to Imperial Valley Speedway on March 5-6 with the father/son duo of Dalton and Brent Sexton claiming the weekend feature wins.
Boasting “The Fastest 1/5-mile Under the Sea”, Imperial Valley Speedway would see a whole new look to the layout of the racing surface with hard work during the off-season culminating in the Mid-Winter Fair hosting the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints for two nights of exciting non-wing action.
Friday night for the POWRi SWLS at Imperial Valley Speedway would find Dalton Sexton establishing his dominance early by gaining a heat race victory and often by driving his Sexton-Gatlin Racing entry to the front of the feature field from a sixth starting position to claim his third series victory. Other heat racing winners included Kevin Bates and Jeff Dyer. Behind the winning Sexton would find reigning series Rookie of the Year Braden Chiaramonte finishing second as Jeremy Queener rounded out the series season’s premier event podium finishers.
Battling on track during the heat and glare of the California sunshine at Imperial Valley Speedway on Saturday, the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints would see Brent Sexton claim his series fourth feature win of the past three seasons. Heat race winners included runner-up finisher David Bezio and Braden Chiaramonte with night-one winner Dalton Sexton earning the final podium placement. Hard-charging all weekend would see Will Browne quickly establish a solid rookie resume’ by finishing inside the top-6 both nights.
