Malpocker Sweeps Weekend, Bruns Takes 2016 Championship

Malpocker Sweeps Weekend, Bruns Takes 2016 Championship

Jacksonville, IL – In POWRi Lucas Oil ILLINI D- II Midget Series competition, Andy Malpocker made it a clean sweep for the weekend at Jacksonville Speedway. Mirroring the previous night, starting outside pole, at the drop of the green flag, Malpocker took command from pole sitter Mitchell Davis and charged to the cushion of the high-banked quarter mile Jacksonville Speedway.

Showing strong drive and stretching his lead, Malpocker’s momentum was slowed with 12 laps down as Ryan Probst slowed on the backstretch. Returning to racing, Malpocker was followed closely by Patrick Bruns and Tyler Vantoll, the 2016 championship contenders separated only by a handful of points. Three laps later the caution again was displayed as Jack Routson spun in three and four.

Returning to racing, Malpocker wasn’t able to stretch his lead over Bruns to what it was before the caution, but the lead was enough to earn another victory and the weekend sweep. Bruns’ second place finish secured him the inaugural POWRi Lucas Oil ILLINI D-II Midget Series championship. Tyler Vantoll rounded out the podium. Broc Hunnel finished fourth while Mitchell Davis rounded took fifth.

“We really put it together tonight,” commented Andy Malpocker. “Again we started up front. When it’s on the fence like this, all you have to do is hit your marks and run smooth. We fought some motor issues earlier in the night, but fortunately it cleared up and here we are. I hope this D-II program grows next year.”

“This is actually our third championship in the year 2016,” stated 2016 POWRi Lucas Oil ILLINI D-II Midget Series Champion. “We were at like 23 or 24 feature wins because of these guys behind me. These guys worked really hard all day. Last minute we lost power steering and they worked all day and got the racecar ready.”

“We came out and decided to run for the championship this year,” said Tyler Vantoll. “I gave it everything I had.”
